THE PREDICTION

This promises to be a fun encounter between two out-of-sorts former top 10 players in Denis Shapovalov and Stefanos Tsitsipas, although the Greek is nowhere near the doldrums that Shapovalov has found himself in. World number 11 Tsitsipas dropped out of the top 10 for the first time since 2019 in January, after failing to match his run to the Australian Open final the year before, and a consummate exit to Jiri Lehecka in the round of 16 at Indian Wells last time out leaves him with an 11-5 record that flatters to deceive as he continues to struggle with form and consistency.

Former number 10 Shapovalov came into Miami ranked outside the top 120 after a woeful few seasons on tour but two wins from his last three matches offers the slightest ray of hope that the once fearless Canadian can rediscover himself. 24-year-old Shapovalov edged past Luciano Darderi on Wednesday to suggest he will be at least competitive in this clash with Tsitsipas and he currently leads their tight head-to-head 3-2, although that looks set to be levelled here. A tiebreak would not be a surprise between two hard-hitters with, at their best, near-impenetrable serves, but the suitably cautious concession whilst they are both faltering is backing Tsitsipas to win outright.

TIP: STEFANOS TSITSIPAS TO WIN
