THE PREDICTION

World number three Carlos Alcaraz extended his winning streak to 14 at the Madrid Open but it came very close indeed against in-form Jan-Lennard Struff in a repeat of their three-set epic in last year’s final. The Spaniard will be aiming to make it three titles on the spin here in Madrid on Sunday, his 21st birthday, and he should be boosted by total attention from raucous home support after Rafael Nadal’s farewell on Tuesday.

World number eight Andrey Rublev is yet to drop a set this fortnight, easing past Tallon Griekspoor on Tuesday to back-up an excellent result over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, as he repairs his recent poor form. The 26-year-old had looked a shadow of himself since a controversial disqualification in the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships in February but he can pose a threat to Alcaraz here if the Spaniard’s forearm issues have reared up following such a battle with Struff. Alcaraz beat Rublev in straight sets in their first encounter at the ATP Finals late last year but taking him to win outright looks the suitably cautious move with little recovery time.

TIP: CARLOS ALCARAZ TO WIN
