THE PREDICTION
Former world number one Andy Murray extended his winning streak over David Goffin to 8-0 with an assuredly convincing straight-sets victory on Wednesday, taking his 2024 record up to 3-6. The 36-year-old has endured perhaps the worst spell of form of his entire career, injuries notwithstanding, but the realisation that this may indeed be his final year on tour looks to have galvanised him a little after some more encouraging performances in recent weeks. World number five Andrey Rublev remains the overwhelming favourite to reach the third round here but it will be interesting to see how he fares after a tumultuous, controversial and potentially rather embarrassing disqualification from the Dubai Tennis Championships last week where he was defaulted for aggressive behaviour towards a line judge. Both Rublev and Murray lost to rising star Jakub Mensik in Doha the week before to suggest Rublev is a little under par at this moment in time but it should take a significant improvement from Murray to cause an upset here. Back Rublev to win outright.
