THE PREDICTION

19-year-old Alex Michelsen will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 73rd after an incredible upset over 32nd seed Jiri Lehecka, who brought a six-match winning streak into their clash after claiming the Adelaide International title last week. Michelsen reached the final of the Newport Open in only his second tour-level tournament last summer and he impressed with a run to the second round of the US Open on his debut. He has surpassed all that now with this third round run on his Australian Open debut and he faces a credible chance at a career-changing upset over sixth seed Alexander Zverev, who has dropped three sets already this fortnight. The 26-year-old came back from a set down to beat Dominik Koepfer but he was poorer in his second match, needing a 10-7 deciding tiebreaker to oust qualifier Lukas Klein in five sets.

Zverev may be struggling after the efforts required to lead Germany to the United Cup title two weeks ago, playing 10 matches combined in singles and doubles, but the his off-court issues continue apace to provide further distractions. The world number six should eventually find a way through this match but back Michelsen to earn a set on his current momentum.

TIP: ALEX MICHELSEN TO WIN A SET
