Benoit Paire is something of a false seed at this stage of the season as the Frenchman enters the Miami Open on a four-match losing streak and with just one win all season with a 1-7 record. The 31-year-old has looked flat and uninterested for large parts of the 2021 season and this match ending up won by the 23rd seed would be the real upset here. Italy’s latest rising star Lorenzo Musetti beat Diego Schwartzman and Grigor Dimitrov in Acapulco last week on his way to a semi-final defeat by Stefanos Tsitsipas and there is already a small hype circus forming around the 19-year-old. Paire is unlikely to be in the mood to upset this Miami Open story waiting to happen and Musetti should be able to reach the third round in straight sets against the 31-year-old.
