MELBOURNE REBELS
- Melbourne Rebels got off to a poor start in Super Rugby AU as they were defeated by the Brumbies in their opening game and despite only losing by a margin of eight points, that only told half the story.
- The Rebels were outscored by five tries to two as they struggled to find a way through the stubborn Brumbies defensive line and they had to rely on penalties to keep themselves in the contest.
- In what is a huge boost for the Rebels as they look to respond to that loss, they are able to call on Campbell Magnay for the first time in Super Rugby this year and he replaces Reece Hodge who will appear from the bench while Andrew Deegan drops out of the 23.
REDS
- Reds started their Super Rugby AU campaign with a win over Waratahs in a game they largely controlled from start to finish and they will be confident of backing that up as they face Melbourne Rebels.
- The Queensland side went into the break in front by six points and that was the margin at full-time too as they came out 32-26 winners in what was a solid, all-round performance on home soil.
- After that effort, the Reds have opted to retain the same side for this week’s contest with Angus Blyth available to play after he passed the HIA protocols while Josh Flook retains his place on the bench, although he will hope to make it onto the field here to make his debut.
THE PREDICTION
Melbourne Rebels produced an underwhelming display last week as they were outplayed by the Brumbies and they now face a tricky challenge against Queensland Reds. The Rebels have been forced to move this clash to Brookvale Oval due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Victoria so their home advantage has been nullified. The Reds played well last week to end an 11-match losing streak against the Waratahs and with them arriving here full of confidence, it is the Queensland outfit that can come away with the spoils here.
