THE TEAM NEWS

SCOTLAND

  • Scotland fell just short away at the Principality Stadium two weeks ago but the 20-17 final score could just as easily have tipped in their favour on a different day.
  • Head coach Gregor Townsend makes two changes for this monumental clash with Six Nations favourites France, with a first start for Rory Darge in the back row and his Glasgow Warriors teammate Zander Fagerson returning.

Scotland: 15 Stuart Hogg (c), 14 Darcy Graham, 13 Chris Harris, 12 Sione Tuipulotu, 11 Duhan van der Merwe, 10 Finn Russell, 9 Ali Price, 8 Magnus Bradbury, 7 Hamish Watson, 6 Rory Darge, 5 Grant Gilchrist, 4 Sam Skinner, 3 Zander Fagerson, 2 Stuart McInally, 1 Pierre Schoeman

Replacements: 16 George Turner, 17 Oli Kebble, 18 WP Nel, 19 Jamie Hodgson, 20 Nick Haining, 21 Ben White, 22 Blair Kinghorn, 23 Mark Bennett

FRANCE

  • France received plenty of plaudits after a 30-24 victory at home to main SIx Nations rivals Ireland two weeks ago, meaning they are the only side to go unbeaten already after just two matches.
  • Head coach Fabien Galthie makes one change as he shifts Yoram Moefana out to the wing to replace the injured Gabin Villiere, making room for Jonathan Danty to come into the side.

France: 15 Melvyn Jaminet, 14 Damian Penaud, 13 Gael Fickou, 12 Jonathan Danty, 11 Yoram Moefana, 10 Romain Ntamack, 9 Antoine Dupont (c), 8 Gregory Alldritt, 7 Francois Cros, 6 Anthony Jelonch, 5 Paul Willemse, 4 Cameron Woki, 3 Uini Atonio, 2 Julien Marchand, 1 Cyril Baille

Replacements: 16 Peato Mauvaka, 17 Jean-Baptiste Gros, 18 Demba Bamba, 19 Romain Taofifenua, 20 Thibaud Flament, 21 Dylan Cretin, 22 Maxime Lucu, 23 Thomas Ramos

THE PREDICTION

There is more than a little recent history in this fixture. Scotland stunned France 23-27 in last season’s epic Six Nations finale to see Les Bleus concede their title-to-be to Wales and Fabien Galthie’s side have lost three of the last four encounters with Gregor Townsend’s ever-improving side. Murrayfield is no longer a comfortable place for top sides as their excellent, tactical masterclass over England at the start of the tournament displayed. Travelling France have not won a Six Nations test against Scotland at Murrayfield since 2014 and the atmosphere put on by home fans will be something to behold on Saturday afternoon. The French are the favourites and they possess all the ability to romp to victory here but there is something about this fixture that suggests backing Scotland, albeit with a hefty +5 head-start, could be the shrewd move.
