THE TEAM NEWS

MELBOURNE STORM

  • Melbourne Storm overcame some dreadful luck during their opening game of the season as they were able to fightback and show their class to overcome Wests Tigers but it came at a huge cost.
  • George Jennings and Christian Welch picked up season-ending injuries while Brandon Smith has also been ruled out for the foreseeable future but they are at least boosted for round two with the return of Cameron Munster, Harry Grant and Jesse Bromwich.

Starting 13: Papenhuyzen, Ieremia, R. Smith, Olam, Coates, Munster, Hughes, J. Bromwich, H. Grant, Asofa-Solomona, Kaufusi, K. Bromwich, King – Interchanges: Wishart, MacDonald, Loiero, Moeroa – Reserves: Lewis, Meaney

Unavailable: Jordan Grant, Tom Eisenhuth, Cooper Johns, Tui Kamikamica, Brandon Smith, Christian Welch, George Jennings

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS

  • South Sydney Rabbitohs were hugely disappointing in their opening game of the new season as last year’s beaten grand finalists were defeated by Brisbane Broncos having managed to score a solitary try in that loss.
  • Souths will need to produce a much better performance with the ball in this contest and there is a significant chance that could happen with the influential Latrell Mitchell set to return from a ban to slot in at fullback.

Starting 13: Mitchell, Johnston, Paulo, Graham, Milne, Walker, Ilias, Tatola, Cook, Nicholls, Koloamatangi, Arrow, Murray – Interchanges: Host, Havili, Burgess, Chee Kam – Reserves: Moale, Mansour

Unavailable: Blake Taaffe

THE PREDICTION

Melbourne Storm’s long-term ambitions suffered a big blow in round one having been handed some significant injury issues to deal with but they are at least able to welcome back some key men for this clash with South Sydney Rabbitohs. Cameron Munster, Harry Grant and Jesse Bromwich will all make their first appearance of the year having sat out last week and South Sydney Rabbitohs may find their inclusions too much to deal with. They were underwhelming in defeat to Brisbane Broncos in their season opener and while Latrell Mitchell will give them a different dynamic with the ball, the hosts should have too much for them and can make it two wins from two as well as seven successive victories in matchups against the Rabbits.
