JACK JENKINS VS JOSE MARISCAL LOWDOWN

Jack Jenkins (12-2) makes his third UFC appearance gunning to be the next Aussie star. We first saw him on the Contender Series pounding out Freddy Emiliano Linares (2022) in the third round. He followed that superb performance up with two hard-fought decisions in his first two UFC fights against Don Shainis (2023) and Jamall Emmers (2023) to stretch his streak to nine.

Jose Mariscal (14-6(1)) makes the flight down under fresh off his successful UFC debut. After taking some time off after losing to Steve Garcia and Sean Soriano in 2020, he returned in 2022 and looked back to his best. He reeled off three quality knockouts over Luke Faultersack, Jordan Beltran and Guilherme Faria de Souza (2023) before getting the call-up. He stepped up to replace Victor Martinez to hand Trevor Peek (2023) his first loss.

JACK JENKINS VS JOSE MARISCAL PREDICTION

Jenkins is very well-rounded and has all the tools to become a top contender. Mariscal also has a workshop of tools in particular his grappling. He has excellent jiu-jitsu and he can also strike which will create a very exciting scrap.

Mariscal is very dangerous, but the difference should be Jenkins technique and timing. He is a crisp boxer and we expect him to pepper Mariscal with his lead left hand to close the distance where he does his best work.

Once the Aussie steps into the pocket, he is lethal with his knees and leg kicks. He will look to time his power shots and then clinch up or shoot for the takedown. Jenkins will be taking a risk by taking the fight to the floor, but his multiple-faceted offence will keep Mariscal unsettled.

We expected this to be competitive everywhere, so the American is the value pick, but we are backing Jenkins to be more active and earn a decision at least.

Prediction: Jenkins via Decision

Value bet: Mariscal to win
