THE LOWDOWN

BOLOGNA

Under the extremely impressive management of former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Thiago Motta, who took charge of Bologna towards the start of last season, Bologna are very much in the battle for a top four spot and UEFA Champions League qualification this year and they are doing so playing an easy on the eye and pleasing style of football.

They come into this one on the back of coming from behind to defeat Lazio at Stadio Olimpico by two goals to one last Sunday, with both Oussama El Azzouzi and Joshua Zirkzee getting on the scoresheet. That was Bologna’s fourth successive victory in Serie A and they just outside of the top four on goal difference.

HELLAS VERONA

Hellas Verona narrowly escaped the drop in dramatic circumstances last season with a post-season playoff against Spezia. They managed to win that game and then pinch Lecce boss Marco Baroni as they vowed to not allow a situation like that to occur again. Then they started this season with back-to-back victories for the only time outside of winning the Scudetto in 1985.

Rather than mount a title challenge in Serie A, though, Verona instead endured a 14-match winless run of form, meaning they are very much firmly involved in the relegation battle. Verona come into this one on the back of a valiant 2-2 draw with Juventus, though, taking the lead on two occasions against The Old Lady at the Bentegodi last weekend.

THE TEAM NEWS

BOLOGNA

Thiago Motta is suffering from just one injury concern for this weekend with long-term absentee Adama Soumaoro. That means they could name an unchanged side for this one on Friday.

PREDICTED XI (4-1-4-1): Skorupski; Posch, Beukema, Lucumi, Kristiansen; El Azzouzi; Orsolini, Fabbian, Ferguson, Saelemaekers; Zirkzee

UNAVAILABLE: Soumaoro (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

HELLAS VERONA

Hellas Verona could also name an unchanged eleven on Friday evening at the Renato Dall’Ara Stadium as only Juan Manuel Cruz is unavailable for them.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Montipo; Tchatchoua, Magnani, Dawidowicz, Cabal; Duda, Silva; Suslov, Folorunsho, Lazovic; Noslin

UNAVAILABLE: Cruz (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

THE PREDICTION

Thiago Motta has Bologna playing as one of the in-form teams in the country so hosting a relegation battler would surely be seen as a foregone conclusion. Whilst Bologna are expected to win and potentially win comfortably with their form and home advantage, Verona could possibly make it tough for them with just two defeats in their last six matches and those losses coming away from home at both Napoli and Roma. Bologna remain the team to back, though.

TIP: BOLOGNA TO WIN & BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE
