THE LOWDOWN

LIVERPOOL

Liverpool’s youthful squad experienced a 2-1 loss against Union SG in the Europa League on Thursday. However, the significance of this result was diminished by the fact the team had already secured a last 16 place in the competition.

What truly delights the Liverpool faithful is their remarkable seven-game winning streak in the Premier League at home. Adding to the joy, Liverpool have managed to score at least twice in each of these triumphs.

Jean-Philippe Mateta handed Crystal Palace the lead from the penalty spot last weekend. However, a milestone 200th goal by Mohamed Salah for the Reds, coupled with an exquisite winner from Harvey Elliott, exemplified Liverpool's signature resilience as they orchestrated yet another remarkable comeback to beat Palace 2-1 at Selhurst Park.

MAN UTD

Manchester United suffered a devastating blow at Anfield when Liverpool handed them a crushing 7-0 defeat at Anfield back in March, marking the Red Devils' most significant Premier League loss in history. It's not since January 2016 that Manchester United last celebrated a Premier League victory at Liverpool's home ground.

United suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich midweek on the final Champions League Group A matchday, which resulted in their elimination from the continental stage altogether.

Last weekend’s humiliating 0-3 home defeat to Bournemouth has not set the Red Devils up in strong confidence to face their North West rivals. United were outplayed by the Cherries in their seventh league loss of the season, and many fans will fear more humiliation at the weekend.

THE TEAM NEWS

LIVERPOOL

Earlier in the week Alexis Mac Allister had been ruled out of the visit of Manchester United through injury. He’ll be joined by Andrew Robertson, Stefan Bajcetic, Thiago Alcantara, Diogo Jota and Joel Matip, the latter of whom underwent surgery this week.

Despite this, Klopp has a well-rested squad thanks to his youth playing on Thursday.

PREDICTED XI (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Szoboszlai, Endo, Jones; Salah, Nunez, Diaz

UNAVAILABLE: Matip (Injured), Robertson (Injured), Bajcetic (Injured), Thiago (Injured), Jota (Injured), Mac Allister (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE:

MAN UTD

Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial's absence has been confirmed for the upcoming journey to Anfield, while Bruno Fernandes is suspended. They join a list of sidelined players including Martinez, Malacia, Casemiro, Mount and Eriksen. However, there's positive news as Marcus Rashford has been given the green light to play after recovering from illness, while Luke Shaw is expected to be fit for the match following his training session on Friday morning.

PREDICTED XI (4-2-3-1): Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Evans, Varane, Dalot; Mainoo, Amrabat; Antony, McTominay, Rashford; Hojlund

UNAVAILABLE: Maguire (Injured), Martinez (Injured), Malacia (Injured), Casemiro (Injured), Eriksen (Injured), Mount (Injured), Fernandes (Suspended), Sancho (Disciplinary), Diallo (Injured), Martial (Injured)

QUESTIONABLE: Lindelof (Injured), Shaw (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Considering that most of Liverpool's key players were rested during their loss to Union SG, fatigue shouldn't be a concern for them.

A replication of the disastrous seven-goal defeat suffered in March is unlikely for Erik ten Hag's team. However, given the low levels of confidence and some key players missing, the conditions seem ripe for Liverpool to once again impart a footballing lesson to the Red Devils.

TIP: LIVERPOOL TO WIN
