THE LOWDOWN

INDIA

Coach: Rahul Dravid

Captain: Rohit Sharma

  • India delighted the home crowd in Chennai with victory against Australia, despite losing three of their top four for 0 while chasing 200 to win, leaving them 2/3 at one stage before Virat Kohli and KL Rahul put together a partnership of 165 to break the back of the run chase, Kohli making 85 and Rahul an unbeaten 97.
  • Opener Shubman Gill has once again been ruled out after having been diagnosed with dengue fever, so India are likely to opt again for Ishan Kishan as Rohit Sharma’s opening partner after Rahul’s knock batting at number five vs Australia.

AFGHANISTAN

Coach: Jonathan Trott

Captain: Hashmatullah Shahidi

  • The biggest fear from an Afghanistan perspective heading into this World Cup was whether their batters would be able to score enough runs in this form of the game and those worries will have increased following a four-wicket loss at the hands of Bangladesh.
  • Afghanistan will hope for a pitch at Delhi that facilitates turn for the spin-bowlers, but when considering that the last game on the ground saw 754 runs plundered in South Africa’s win over Sri Lanka, they may not get their wish.

THE PREDICTION

Even without in-form opener Shubman Gill, India’s batting looks formidable on paper and being at home serves as an added bonus for them. It’s very unlikely that Afghanistan’s batting order will able to match the hosts, who can also call upon a bowling attack that combines pace with spin extremely well. On paper, this feels like a mismatch and any outcome other than a routine win for India would be seen as a big surprise on a ground likely to provide plenty of runs.

BETTING TIP: INDIA TO WIN
