THE LOWDOWN

FORTUNE BARISHAL

• Fortune Barisal slipped to their third defeat in four matches last time out as they could only muster a below-par 108/8 against Dhaka last time out and they simply have to improve in all areas if they are to compete for a play-off place.
• They face Khulna who have already beaten them once although they did push them all the way in that opening game but they ultimately need more of their batsmen to contribute and support skipper Tamim Iqbal.
• Only three players managed to reach double figures with the bat against Dhaka and with Tamim topscoring in their last three games, it promises to be another difficult match against Khulna unless others start producing.

GEMCON KHULNA

• Gemcon Khulna got back to winning ways against Dhaka last time out after losing their two previous matches so they sit on four points from their opening four matches at the halfway stage.
• There were some improvements with the bat last time out as Mahmudullah hit 45 but Imrul Kayes and Shakib Al Hasan struggled yet again so they are waiting for their big names to really fire in this tournament still.
• All-rounder Shuvagata Hom came in for his first game of the tournament against Dhaka and he smashed a handy 15 from five balls before taking 3/13 form 3.2 overs so he will surely retain his place in what should be an unchanged side.

THE PREDICTION

Neither of these teams has played particularly well so far in this tournament but it is Khulna who are under-performing significantly based on the quality within their ranks. There were signs that Mahmudullah was finding form with the bat last time out while Shakib was excellent with the ball. They will now hope they can step it up a level along with Imrul Kayes which they should be able to do against this relatively poor Fortune Barisal outfit. Tamim Iqbal was always going to struggle to produce a minor miracle with such little quality around him and that is becoming increasingly evident. They will struggle once again here and Khulna can pick up a valuable victory.
