WHO ARE THE LEADING MEDAL CONTENDERS?

The world record for the men’s 100m butterfly was set by Caeleb Dressel, of the United States, in Budapest in 2020. The American set a time of 47.78 seconds. The Commonwealth swimming record was set in Rio at the 2016 Olympics by Singaporean swimmer Joseph Schooling. The Commonwealth Games record was set in 2018 at the Gold Coast event, set by Chad Le Clos of South Africa, with a time of 50.65 seconds.

Four-time Olympic medalist Le Clos picked up the silver medal in the 200m Butterfly at the weekend during these games. He finished behind New Zealand’s Lewis Clareburt with James Guy of England picking up the bronze medal.

TSZ’S PREDICTION

Despite Clareburt qualifying by 0.09 seconds ahead of Le Clos and then winning the final ahead of the South African by another slender margin of 0.29 seconds, it is expected that the 30 year-old from Durban gets his revenge in this event. He has won the last two 100m butterfly races at the Commonwealth Games and will be determined to make it three-in-a-row.

TSZ Tip: CHAD LE CLOS (SOUTH AFRICA) TO WIN.
