The women’s 100m world record was set by the United States’ Florence Griffith-Joyner in 1988, with a time of 10.49 seconds. The women’s Commonwealth Games record was set in Glasgow in 2014, when Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare set a time of 10.85 seconds.
The Athletics event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games has been ravaged by withdrawals with several key absentees for this event, such as England’s Dina Asher-Smith and Jamaica’s Briana Williams.
TSZ’S PREDICTION
Jamaica pulled off a one-two-three at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics last summer, with Elaine Thompson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson all medalling. Whilst Thompson-Herah and Jackson is indicative of extremely tough opposition, this is Fraser-Pryce's likely final chance to win the Commonwealth Games 100m gold and that added motivation could see her over the line. A good bet for this one, though, could see Jamaica filling up the podium, once again.
TSZ Tip: SHELLY-ANN FRASER-PRYCE (JAMAICA) TO WIN
