WHO ARE THE LEADING MEDAL CONTENDERS?

The world record for the men’s 200m was set by Usain Bolt, of Jamaica, with a time of 19.19 seconds at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. The Commonwealth Games record for this event is 19.97 seconds, which was set by Frankie Fredericks, of Namibia, in 1994 at the Victoria games.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games men’s 200m winner was Trinidad and Tobago’s Jereem Richards with Aaron Brown in second place and Leon Reid picking up the bronze medal. The Tokyo 2022 winner was Andre De Grasse but De Grasse is injured ahead of these games.

TSZ’S PREDICTION

Defending champion Richards is expected to be in the mix for the race but the season’s best performer so far is South Africa’s Luxolo Adams. Given that some of the key athletes, such as De Grasse and the aforementioned Aaron Brown have withdrawn, Adams will fancy his chances of continuing his good form.

TSZ Tip: LUXOLO ADAMS (SOUTH AFRICA) TO WIN
