WHO ARE THE LEADING MEDAL CONTENDERS?
On the back of the Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay in which Team GB came out on top, the Brits are hoping to go one better in this event on their silver medal in 2016. The British team includes the relentlessly impressive and verging on legendary Adam Peaty in the breaststroke leg as well as the 200m Freestyle gold medalist Tom Dean.
An issue for Team GB is that, unlike the Mixed Relay, they come into this race as the second fastest behind an Italian team that are looking to end their time in the pool on a high. Italy have only picked up one medal so far in the pool.
The other leading contenders for the event will be China and Russia. The surprise in qualification for this final would be the times of the United States and Australia. Those two teams scraped into the final but Team USA will remain a leading contender given their pedigree in this event as well as the experience in the pool.
TSZ’S PREDICTION
The Mixed 4x100m Medley Relay and the Men’s 4x200m Freestyle Relay have both been won by Team GB and given that, as well as the fact that two of their legs will be competed by Olympic gold medalists and a silver medalist, would make Great Britain the slight favourites for this event. Despite Italy’s fast qualification, they aren’t expected to defeat GB in the final.
