THE PREDICTION

World number 29 Sebastian Korda reached the final of the 500 event in Adelaide last season, taking the first set from Novak Djokovic before an impressive defeat, and he looks set to emulate that run here after back-to-back straight-set results. The 23-year-old beat Lorenzo Sonego, who had lead 3-1 in their head-to-head, 12-10 in their second-set tiebreak to pose a big statement to the rest of the draw and he protected his serve throughout a reasonably solid result over Christopher O’Connell on Thursday. World number 32 Jiri Lehecka should not be underestimated, though, after upsetting second seed Nicolas Jarry on Thursday to finally string some good form together.

Both players have the potential to reach the top 10 in their careers, with Korda the more widely gifted of the two, and they proved that last season with quarter-final exits at the Australian Open. Korda could have gone further, such was his level early last year, were it not for an injury and that vengeful streak looks to be powering his tennis this week in Adelaide. Back the American to earn at least a set as the likelier of two very capable victors in what should be a quality first meeting between them.

TIP: SEBASTIAN KORDA TO WIN A SET
