THE PREDICTION

This exciting exhibition match between last season’s Wimbledon finalists sold out in 58 minutes, amidst the usual spot of controversy whenever 27-year-old Nick Kyrgios is involved, but there is some doubt as to whether it will take place at all. World number five Novak Djokovic is riding a 10-match winning streak after winning back-to-back titles at the ATP Finals and last week’s Adelaide 1 but the Serb was forced to finish practice early on Wednesday as he struggles with a hamstring complaint that required treatment in his three-set victory over Sebastian Korda on Sunday. Should Djokovic be able to play on Friday it is unlikely that the 35-year-old will take any chances ahead of the Australian Open and world number 21 Kyrgios, who requires very little warm-up to get his hammer-arm working. That and home advantage in Melbourne in what should be a well-mannered, if partisan, atmosphere in favour of the Aussie makes Kyrgios the reasonable favourite to win outright. Kyrgios has won at least a set in each of his three meetings with Djokovic, leading the Serb 2-1 after last season’s four-set defeat at Wimbledon.
