World number three Daniil Medvedev won the Paris Masters back in 2020, one of a remarkable six Masters titles to his name after adding two more this season in Miami and Rome. The 27-year-old has reached an incredible nine finals this season but losing three since September at the US Open, to Novak Djokovic, and twice to Jannik Sinner in Beijing and Vienna suggests his peak level is a little out of reach right now. Three-set victories over Karen Khachanov and Grigor Dimitrov last week in Vienna would confirm that and Dimitrov will be pleased at a chance for redemption in this quick rematch after his straight-sets victory over Lorenzo Musetti. The 32-year-old also beat Musetti in straight sets last week before defeat in three to Medvedev for a spot of déjà vu here and it is rare, at least in recent years, that the Bulgarian has come back stronger mentally. His impressive improvement under a new coaching set-up has seen steady progression in the second half of 2023 but it would be a surprise to see Medvedev falter 6-2 up in their head-to-head in these conditions.
