THE PREDICTION

Former world number 10 David Goffin should be ranked much higher than his current world number 61 after a run to the quarter-finals was ended in a thrilling five-set defeat to Cam Norrie. The 31-year-old beat Frances Tiafoe in five in the round of 16 in a welcome return to the kind of tennis he is capable of after several years in the wilderness on tour but it remains to be seen if a straight-sets defeat to Jack Sock last week in Washington is a blip or something more serious. World number 43 Albert Ramos-Vinolas has enjoyed another successful season on his favoured clay, with a fifth ATP title won at the Cordoba Open in February and more recently back-to-back semi-finals in his last two tournaments. However, the clay has been put away for another year and whilst the Spaniard is always a combative opponent on tour these conditions favour Goffin pretty heavily. The Belgian won their only previous meeting in straight sets at Indian Wells in 2017 but back him outright here with his level questionable at present.
