ATLANTA FALCONS
- Atlanta earned a big win over Carolina as quarterback Matt Ryan had a field day to help his side post 40 points in the one-sided victory but the Falcons face a big test to back that up as they head to San Francisco.
- The Falcons lost cornerback Desmond Trufant to a forearm injury last week while wide receiver Calvin Ridley sustained an abdominal injury and the pair have both been ruled out for the season after they were placed on injured reserve.
- Wideout Julio Jones is also in some doubt for this week after he was limited during the early part of the week with the shoulder injury that he has suffered with of late and running back Devonta Freeman is trending towards playing after he returned to practice on Thursday.
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
- San Francisco came out on top of a 94-point thriller with Robbie Gould's walk-off field goal giving the 49ers a crucial victory and they now hold a one game advantage over Seattle in the NFC West.
- The 49ers suffered more injury woe in their win last week with center Weston Richburg going down with a torn patellar tendon ending his year and they have added cornerback Dontae Johnson to their roster in his place.
- Pass rusher Dee Ford and cornerback Richard Sherman are both expected to sit out this contest with the 49ers defense taking a hit in the build-up to the post-season and the former could even miss numerous games.
THE PREDICTION
San Francisco played out an unbelievable game against New Orleans but it came at a cost as they suffered more injury issues. They have numerous players now on the sidelines and they could harm their Super Bowl chances but they are fortunate that they were playing well and have some good depth in their ranks which should allow them to come out on top of this game against Atlanta on home turf.
