BRANDON MORENO VS BRANDON ROYVAL LOWDOWN
Brandon Moreno (21-7-2) was originally tasked with rising contender Amir Albazi who had to pull out. Fortunately, he still gets to headline the Mexico City card as he hopes to earn another title shot. He lost his flyweight belt for a second time at UFC 290 losing a split decision to Alexandre Pantoja (2023). It was a classic war and refreshing change from his tetralogy of battles with former champion Deiveson Figueiredo where he went 2-1-1.
Brandon Royval (15-7) steps up to the plate and is also coming off a decision loss to Pantoja (2023) losing his first attempt at UFC gold. His last two losses prior to that were actually to Moreno (2020) and Pantoja (2021) again getting finished both times. However, he bounced back with a split decision over Rogerio Bontorin (2022), submission over Matt Schnell (2022) and knockout over Matheus Nicolau (2023).

Moreno has not fought a new opponent sine 2020, but the fans are excited at least as this is destined be an exciting scrap with a mixture of high-level striking and grappling.
The fight will start on the feet where Moreno’s best weapon will be his jab and Royval’s will be his body and calf kick from the southpaw stance. That said, they both have strong jabs and kicks.
They will be constantly moving trying to stay illusive which will create opportunities for scrambles. This is where they both excel as decent wrestlers with slick jiu-jitsu.
Moreno earnt the TKO last time around, but that happened after Royval dislocated his shoulder and even though this is five rounds, it will be surprising to see a submission.
Royval has the cardio to threaten for five rounds even at altitude. He will be relentless in the pursuit of a submission however, Moreno has never been finished and his constant output and wrestling should see him home with a possible late finish.
