THE TEAM NEWS

NEW ZEALAND

• New Zealand made it back-to-back victories in the Super 12s stage last time out after comfortably beating Scotland by 16 runs in Dubai, but cannot afford to slip up against Namibia if they wish to reach the semi-finals.
• Martin Guptill hit a brilliant 93 against Scotland, but was severely affected by the heat having been at the crease for the majority of New Zealand’s innings and didn’t field during the back end of Scotland’s innings, however with day of rest under his belt, Guptill should be raring to go again.

NAMIBIA

• Since beating Scotland in their opening Super 12s match, Namibia have suffered successive defeats against Afghanistan and Pakistan with the opposition not getting any easier for them here.
• After being promoted to open the batting against Afghanistan, Nicol Loftie-Eaton was pushed back into the middle order against Pakistan with the experienced Craig Williams batting at three and Namibia may be tempted to tinker with that top order once again, although Stephan Baard is likely to keep his opening spot after a promising 29 against Pakistan, whilst Williams should remain at three after his score of 40 in the same match.

THE PREDICTION

Namibia cannot be underestimated when taking into account the likes of David Wiese among their ranks, who has the ability to put any bowling attack in the tournament to the sword on his day. However, when taking into account the strength-in-depth of both sides with bat and ball, it is clear that New Zealand are a superior outfit. The Black Caps are beginning to really click into gear in the Super 12s after a slow start and provided they don’t allow Wiese to get his eye in at the crease, New Zealand are expected to record a comprehensive win here on a Sharjah pitch that should allow the Kiwi bowlers to shine.
