West Indies beat India by five wickets
THE TEAM NEWS
WEST INDIES
- West Indies held their nerve to successfully chase down 139 with five wickets remaining to level this five-match T20i, but have little time to dwell on victory due to this incredibly short turnaround.
- Wicket-keeper Devon Thomas made his first appearance of the series for the Windies and ended up being the hero with the bat, scoring 31 not out to take his side home and should keep his place in the team here as a result.
- Keemo Paul was the player to make way for Thomas and is expected to miss out once again this time round with West Indies unlikely to change what turned out to be a winning formula.
INDIA
- India’s batting misfired on Monday, as they were bowled out for just 138 in 19.4 overs, a sharp contrast to their 190/6 in the first T20i, with Warner Park being a tougher pitch to bat on.
- Usually, Rohit Sharma and the Indian coaching staff do not make knee jerk decisions following a poor result and that trend is expected to continue again here, although fast Avesh Khan will consider himself lucky to be selected after a poor performance that saw his 2.2 overs hit for 31 runs.
- India’s batters will need to bounce back after none of them made a half-century in their defeat with Shreyas Iyer under the microscope in particular having only scored ten runs across the series so far.
THE PREDICTION
As well as West Indies bowled in the last T20i, it would be a significant surprise if India were to misfire with the bat as badly as they did on Monday, especially when taking into account the depth within their batting order. Of course, the momentum the Windies will have garnered from their victory cannot be underrated, but we’ve already seen India bounce back expertly from setbacks in white ball cricket across the recent tour of England and the same is likely in this match. Back India to put yesterday behind them and retake the lead in this series.
