SOUTH AFRICA

• South Africa fought from behind to claim an impressive win over India in their Test series but attention will now turn to the one-day series and the Proteas will welcome Quinton de Kock back to the fold following his retirement from Test match cricket.
• Kagiso Rabada was in sensational form during the Test series, taking more wickets than any other player with 20 while Marco Jansen and Lungi Ngidi offered him plenty of support with that trio set to be key in this series.

INDIA

• India blew a brilliant chance to claim a maiden Test series win on South African soil as they lost back-to-back matches having clinched the opening contest and they will now attempt to put that disappointment behind them in the ODI arena.
• The Indians will need to be better with the ball in the 50-over format having struggled during the Tests and a lot of pressure will fall on the shoulders of vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah having taken 12 wickets in the three-match Test series.

THE PREDICTION

South Africa produced some solid displays in the recent World Cup but it was not enough to advance out of the group and they will be eager to put in a good display in this series with India. The hosts were winners in the Test match series with the Indians and will be looking to build on that success. They have the bowling unit to cause the tourists plenty of problems and on the back of a poor World Cup campaign, there could be some lingering after-effects of that disappointing tilt to become world champions so the hosts can upset the odds to prevail in this opening clash.
