After taking a break during the clay season to rest his body, Federer returns to Wimbledon fresh and ready to compete for what would be his ninth Wimbledon title if he can avoid defeat in the next two weeks.
His form when he has played in 2018 has shown no signs of dropping as he comes into Wimbledon having only lost 3 matches this year and he has already collected three titles including the Australian Open where he beat Marian Cilic.
The draw has been favourable for the 36-year-old with his toughest test on paper likely to come in the semi-finals against Cilic, while he will be buoyed by the fact some of his big rivals like Djokovic and Murray are either struggling for form or out injured.
The Serbian is currently 58th in the World and he will have to produce a major upset against Federer here and a major improvement on their second round clash at Wimbledon last year which was competitive in the first set but Federer ran away with it eventually.
Lajovic has been enjoying one of his better seasons so far with his best performance coming in the Madrid Open where he beat Del Potro and Gasquet, only to lose in the quarter-finals to Kevin Anderson.
He will be hoping for a fast start to try upset Federer from getting in his rhythm early on but that will mean raising his percentage on his 1st serve compared to their meeting in the second round last year when he only won 58%.
The draw has been relatively kind for Roger Federer as he returns to Wimbledon seeking his ninth title. Lajovic will be motivated to spring an upset, but lacks the weapons to really trouble Federer here. Last year they met in the second round and Lajovic took the first set to a tie break, before eventually losing in straight sets, and that could well be the same here as Federer may struggle early before getting in his stride and comfortably dispatching the Serbian. Straight sets win is on the cards.
