The Lowdown

WIGAN WARRIORS

  • Wigan were comprehensively outplayed by Castleford last week once again and this time they were mauled by the league leaders 54-4 to stun them and break their three-match winning run.
  • Their squad is obliterated by absentees with the injury bug striking again but they are not helped by Sean O'Laughlin being called up by England and Michael McIlorum being suspended for this match.
  • Anthony Gelling, Ben Flower, George Williams and Morgan Escare all have injuries so that takes their list of absentees to 13 as they are severely weakened for this match.

Head Coach: Shaun Wane

Squad: Joe Bretherton, Joe Burgess, Tom Davies, Liam Farrell, Gabriel Fell, Liam Forsyth, Josh Ganson, Nick Gregson, Willie Isa, Liam Marshall, Romain Navarrete, Frank-Paul Nuuausala, Sam Powell, Ryan Sutton, Taulima Tautai, Lewis Tierney, Joel Tomkins, Jack Wells, Josh Wood

Unavailable: Sean O'Loughlin (International duty), Michael McIlorum (Suspended), Anthony Gelling (Knee), Ben Flower (Achilles), George Williams (Knee), Morgan Escaré (Knee), Thomas Leuluai (Jaw), Tony Clubb (Kidney), Oliver Gildart (Back), Sam Tomkins (Ankle), Dom Manfredi (Knee), John Bateman (Shoulder), Jake Shorrocks (Knee), Callum Field

SALFORD RED DEVILS

  • Salford eased to victory last week to beat Widnes 30-10 as they sit in the lofty position of third spot and the confidence and morale within the camp is clearly flying right now.
  • They have various absentees themselves and it was confirmed this week that Justin Carney will serve an eight-match ban after racially abusing a Toronto player in the cup while namesake Todd is also out injured.
  • Salford are also without ever-present players Craig Kopczak and Mark Flanagan who will both be missed for their consistently high performance levels so Liam Bent and Connor Williams come in and could make their debuts.

Head Coach: Ian Watson

Squad: Liam Bent, Jake Bibby, Kriss Brining, Michael Dobson, Niall Evalds, Greg Johnson, Josh Jones, Olsi Krasniqi, Ryan Lannon, Rob Lui, Lee Mossop, Ben Murdoch-Masila, Daniel Murray, Lama Tasi, Logan Tomkins, Adam Walne, Kris Welham, Connor Williams, Josh Wood

Unavailable: Craig Kopczak (Injured), Mark Flanagan (Injured), Todd Carney (Injured), Justin Carney (Suspended), Gareth O'Brien (Concussion), Weller Huaraki (Foot), Junior Sa'u (Injured), George Griffin, Jordan Walne

Analysis - what to expect
When the two teams walk on the pitch at the DW, there will be a significant number of unfamiliar faces as both teams have a crazy number of absentees through international call-ups, suspensions and injuries. Wigan are worst hit but they have the better depth in their squad and more talented youngsters and that could just about give them the edge in what is an unpredictable game to call.
