Warrington Wolves vs St Helens Preview

Email

The Lowdown

WARRINGTON WOLVES

  • Warrington's excellent run of form came to an end last week as Hull beat them 34-10 but their confidence will not be badly dented given their run of results prior to that game.
  • The Wolves are without influential trio Kevin Brown, Chris Hill and Stefan Ratchford who are on international duty with England to face Samoa, and that is a major blow as they struggled badly early in the season when Hill and Ratchford were absent.
  • Ben Westwood is back after serving a suspension while they can also count on Dom Crosby, Harvey Livett and Morgan Smith while helps overcome the absence of the international players and Joe Westerman, who has a neck injury.

Head Coach: Tony Smith

Squad: Ryan Atkins, Daryl Clark, Mike Cooper, Dom Crosby, Brad Dwyer, Rhys Evans, Kurt Gidley, Jack Hughes, Benjamin Jullien, George King, Tom Lineham, Harvey Livett, Declan Patton, Joe Philbin, Matty Russell, Andre Savelio, Ashton Sims, Morgan Smith, Ben Westwood

Unavailable: Kevin Brown (International duty), Chris Hill (International duty), Stefan Ratchford (International duty), Joe Westerman (Neck), Toby King (Hamstring), Ben Currie (Knee), Matty Blythe, Jack Johnson, Sam Wilde

ST HELENS

  • St Helens have appointed Sydney Roosters assistant coach Justin Holbrook as their new Head Coach and he is known to have an attacking philosophy, so that should see a change in approach for the team.
  • They will have to do without Alex Walmsley and Mark Percival who are both in Australia for international duty with England so they will miss the key duo for this game.
  • They are however given a major boost by the return of James Roby after missing several weeks through injury, while Jake Spedding and Greg Richards also return to the squad.

Head Coach: Justin Holbrook

Squad: Kyle Amor, Luke Douglas, Theo Fages, Regan Grace, Morgan Knowles, Tommy Lee, Tommy Makinson, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Ryan Morgan, Dominique Peyroux, Greg Richards, James Roby, Matty Smith, Adam Swift, Zeb Taia, Luke Thompson, Jake Spedding, Adam Walker, Jon Wilkin

Unavailable: Alex Walmsley (International duty), Mark Percival (International duty), Jonah Cunningham, Ricky Bailey, Matty Fleming, Jonny Lomax, Danny Richardson, Calvin Wellington, Jack Ashworth, Jack Owens

Analysis - what to expect
International call-ups have affected the team selection for both sides here but Warrington are really depleted without Brown, Hill and Ratchford. The trio have all missed playing time this season and that was predominantly when the Wolves were in miserable form earlier in the campaign. Saints have Walmsley and Percival missing, but with a new Head Coach installed, they will be highly motivated to impress the new man and take the points here.
