HEAD-TO-HEAD
All-time meetings: Worcestershire Rapids W0, Sussex Sharks W0

THE TEAM NEWS

WORCESTERSHIRE RAPIDS

Coach: Kevin Sharp

Captain: Moeen Ali

  • The Rapids are one of the youngest teams in the tournament yet they showed fantastic composure to reach the t20 Blast final after overcoming a Lancashire Lightning team packed with talent and internationals.

  • Moeen Ali was key for them in the win with both bat and ball as he got the innings off to a fabulous start with 41 runs from 21 balls, but his 2/16 from 4 overs was vital after the Lightning’s reasonable start in reply to the Rapids’ 169/6

  • The Rapids will need more of their top order batsmen like Clarke, D’Oliveira and Whiteley to contribute with the bat against the impressive Sharks bowling attack though they do have the advantage of having a rest between matches.

SUSSEX SHARKS

Coach: Jason Gillespie

Captain: Luke Wright

  • The Sharks romped into the final thanks largely to a stunning innings by skipper Luke Wright who smashed 92 from 53 balls as they batted first and hit 202/8 which Somerset could not come close to matching.

  • They made the decision to bat first and they will likely aim to do that in the final also as they know that with their impressive bowling attack, they will be able to cause issues for any team chasing a reasonable total.

  • Chris Jordan and Jofra Archer were in superb form at both the start and end of the innings and they will be key to their hopes in the final as they looked to overcome the Rapids who they have never met before in T20 tournaments.

THE PREDICTION

It is fascinating that these two teams have never met in T20 competitions and it is set to be an excellent final. The Rapids were excellent with the ball in defending 169 but they will face an even better bowling attack which is ominous for them. Sussex do not have great depth in their batting line-up but if Luke Wright shows anything like the form he produced in the semi-final, depth will be irrelevant. The only thing against Sussex is potential fatigue as they play back-to-back matches. The toss will be key and if the Rapids win the toss, they may bat first and try to tire out the Sharks’ bowlers. That could be key to deciding the outcome of this game, but on paper, the Sharks have to be favoured.
