THE TEAM NEWS

ESSEX EAGLES

Coach: Anthony McGrath

Captain: Ryan ten Doeschate

  • Essex struggled against Sussex in their opening match as they were bowled out for 145 as they chased 181/6 but in reality they were never close to challenging and winning the game as they went down by 36 runs.

  • Some of their key men let them down with the bat as Wheater scored 6, captain Ten Doeschate was out for a duck and Ravi Bopara only managed 4 so the trio will be asked to raise their game and contribute more with the bat against Middlesex.

  • The bowling performance also requires improvement and they will hope that Aussie spinner Adam Zampa can do a better job at tying things up after the powerplay while they have not ruled out making a change or two for this game.

MIDDLESEX

Coach: Daniel Vettori

Captain: Dawid Malan

  • Middlesex got off to a fabulous start in their opening Vitality Blast campaign as they beat London rivals Surrey so they will look to establish themselves in top spot of South Group by winning this game.

  • Dawid Malan is on England duty to the skipper misses out her and that will slightly weaken their batting line-up but they did play extremely well against Surrey and it will likely mean more responsibility for the likes of Cartwright and Bravo.

  • Paul Stirling was the key man in the win over Surrey with both bat and ball, and they will look to the Irishman to produce more heroics along with another excellent bowling display from Bravo.

THE PREDICTION

Essex are looking somewhat short on quality with both bat and ball right now, and they will have to improve massively from their first game. Sussex have more quality than Middlesex do with ball but the quality of Middlesex’s batting line-up is impressive even without Malan. Cartwright, Bravo and Stirling offer a strong core to the side that should help them wrap up another victory here.
