THE TEAM NEWS

ESSEX EAGLES

Coach: Anthony McGrath

Captain: Ryan ten Doeschate

  • The Eagles picked up an excellent win over rivals Middlesex on Thursday night as they chased down Middlesex’s 210/3 and that will help them end the season on a positive note despite plenty of disappointments.

  • 21-year-old Dan Lawrence plundered a tremendous 86 from 45 balls to smash Middlesex’s poor bowling attack all around Lords while Varun Chopra and Ravi Bopara chipped in with valuable contributions to see them home.

  • Bopara makes his 200th T20 appearance here and after a slow start to this competition this season, he will be determined to go out on a high also in this landmark match as they likely go unchanged for this game.

KENT SPITFIRES

Coach: Matt Walker

Captain: Sam Billings

  • Kent eased past Somerset on Thursday night to qualify for the quarter-finals and they will now be targeting another win here as they aim to seal a home tie as the knockout phase gets under way.

  • They have won their last two matches now and their batting especially is firing on all cylinders and looks one of the strongest in the tournament as they look to carry that into the knockout phase.

  • Changes are unlikely for this match unless there are any nagging injury concerns and Joe Denly could be one candidate to sit this match out while they will assess the fitness of Marcus Stoinis and may bring him back in to get some game time.

THE PREDICTION

Essex stunned Middlesex on Thursday night with an outstanding batting display albeit against a poor and off-form bowling attack. Kent represent a major step up in class as an opponent in all areas of the game and they were in good form themselves on Thursday night beating leaders Somerset. That win was arguably more impressive and they will want to string a couple of wins together to take momentum into the quarters. Essex did well in what was only their second win of the t20 Blast campaign, but they will struggle against the Spitfires here.
