The Stats Zone are looking for a Sports Content Editor who will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of one of our key client-based services. As part of a small but fast-moving set-up, you can play a key role and help form the direction of the company.
Founded in 2015, The Stats Zone is a small dynamic company with expertise in the application of data to sport. We specialise in consulting on, developing and implementing solutions targeted towards broadcasters, professional sports clubs and sporting federations. Currently our core sports are football, basketball, rugby league, curling and cricket, but our approach is largely transferable to a wider range of sports, some of which we produce content for on www.thestatszone.com.
The role involves producing high-quality sports content in a fast and efficient manner. Following our clear set of definitions and style guide, you will be expected to produce consistently high-quality content regardless of the sport you are asked to write on. This area of the business has focused solely on football up until now, but we will shortly be branching out into other sports such as Tennis, Rugby Union, Snooker, Darts, American Football, Basketball and Ice Hockey. Expert knowledge of these sports is welcome but you should be able to research them sufficiently to be able to produce good content on them.
Whether writing or editing and proofreading the content, one of your core duties will be to conduct background research into the sports that we cover, ensuring our content is well-informed, accurate and up-to-date when delivered to the client.
In rotation with other members of the team, you will be responsible for delegating the workload to our freelancers and ensuring they meet deadlines so that you can distribute a quality final product to our external client.
You will be responsible for ensuring that tone and approach is consistent across the board and in-line with client requirements. This can involve providing regular feedback to freelancers as and when appropriate, and you will lead by example by demanding attention to detail.
On occasion, you may be tasked with providing content for publication on the TSZ website.
You will report to our Sports Content Manager, who will be responsible for setting your workload on a weekly basis.
You will be expected to bring your own ideas to the table and use your own sporting knowledge to maintain the high standards we set. There is potential for the relationship with our client to develop further and your application to the role will be key in driving that progression.
An excellent grasp of written English and a high-attention to detail is paramount to the role. You will need to regularly verify the accuracy of the content produced by our freelancers – be it data or otherwise – before distributing it to our client.
We value the qualities offered by self-starters. You will be highly-organised, motivated to work and set targets independently, and be comfortable with meeting regular deadlines. We are looking for somebody to fit in with our current team who are prepared to go that extra mile whenever required.
Coordinating a team effectively requires excellent communication skills – both written and verbal – and adeptness at developing good working relationships with colleagues who are both office and remote-based.
Some training can be offered, but knowledge of Microsoft Office packages – particularly Excel – are desired. Familiarity with Google Spreadsheets and Google Drive is also advantageous.
This is a part-time freelancer role on a contractor basis. You are responsible for declaring what you earn to the relevant authorities.
Fees are agreed on an hourly/daily rate and will be agreed in advance of any work undertaken. Fees are paid promptly on a monthly basis.
Role: Initially part-time contractor moving to full-time eventually
Location: Media City, Salford Quays
Requirements: You provide all the necessary equipment to fulfil the duties
Hours: Flexible / project-based
