This final bout is a contest between Rio 2016 men’s middleweight champion gold medalist Arlen Lopez and Team GB’s Benjamin Whittaker. It is the second final between Cuba and Great Britain in the Boxing in as many days.

That first final between Roniel Iglesias and Pat McCormack saw the Cuban come out on top and, if you believe in patterns, Iglesias was also already an Olympic gold medalist.

Lopez’ route to the final has been exemplary whilst Whittaker has had some difficulty, especially in his semi-final against Imam Khataev of the Russian Olympic Committee.

Team GB’s gold medal hopes in the Boxing don’t end with Whittaker but it is expected to be a fairly frustrating start to the final bouts and back-to-back defeats to Cuban opposition looks like a very likely occurrence as Lopez comes into this as the favourite.
