THE TEAM NEWS

ENGLAND

  • England are ranked second in the world and they will be confident heading into the World Cup since they beat Australia in the final of the 2018 Commonwealth Games especially as they will have home support behind them.
  • Former England shooter and current head coach Tracey Neville is to step down after the World Cup in Liverpool after four years in charge so the squad will look to send the popular coach off in style.
  • At the 2015 World Cup, England lost by eleven points to New Zealand in the semi-finals, but were able to beat Jamaica 66-44 in the bronze medal match and they have made great strides since then and they will expect to kick off their challenge for honours with an opening victory here.

UGANDA

  • The She Cranes booked their spot at the 2019 World Cup thanks to beating Zambia 64-56 on the penultimate day of their regional qualifiers and they kick off their campaign against the hosts and one of the tournament’s favourites.
  • Uganda She Cranes finished eighth at the 2015 World Cup in Sydney which is their best ever finish from two appearances at the World Cup and they will be targeting something similar if not better in Liverpool.
  • Sunshine Coast Lightning goal shooter Peace Proscovia will captain the Uganda side which has risen to sixth in the latest version of the INF world rankings and they will be aiming for second spot behind England in this group.

THE PREDICTION

England completed a 3-0 clean sweep in their series against Uganda in 2018 and they will be heavy favourites to beat the African side once again here. The last match between the teams resulted in a 66-37 victory for England and expect the host team to defeat Uganda again with relative ease and collect two points to take an early lead in Group D. Uganda may be able to compete with them in the early stages, but once Tracey Neville’s team get up to speed, they should comfortably pull away from them.
