We've analysed each of the eight seeds at this year's BetVictor World Cup Of Darts and assessed their chances of success at the team event. Here we look at #3 seeds Wales:

  • Wales appeared in the first World Cup final back in 2010 and again made it through to the final two years ago.
  • They are represented for the second consecutive year by the 2018 Grand Slam of Darts champion Gerwyn Price and a three-time PDC ranking tournament winner in Jonny Clayton. They have both won tournaments on the PDC main tour this season.
  • Last year the Welsh duo defeated Thailand in the first round and then made hard work of overcoming Switzerland in the second round before losing to Australia in the quarter-finals.

THE VERDICT

Wales have been the nearly men twice in World Cup history with excellent runs to the final in 2010 and 2017 and they look well poised to challenge to go one better on this occasion. Gerwyn Price leads the team and he is certainly in a more confident mood than last year where he had suffered elimination from the Premier League and ended up losing both of his singles matches at the World Cup. Since then, Price has of course won the Grand Slam of Darts and just missed out on a place in the Premier League play-offs having given a very good account of himself throughout the campaign. Jonny Clayton has broken into the top 16 in the PDC rankings and showed his class on the big stage when he defeated Michael van Gerwen in their group stage encounter at the Grand Slam. This Welsh team will certainly fear nobody and are capable of ending the Netherlands/England stranglehold on the World Cup trophy.
