THE PREDICTION

World number 18 Pablo Carreno Busta has been needing a run like this after several months of underwhelming results since his defeat to Carlos Alcaraz at the Barcelona Open appeared to take its toll. The 31-year-old conceded just one game to third seed Diego Schwartzman on Friday, backing up solid results on clay over Albert Ramos-Vinolas and Stan Wawrinka. Anyone of the last four at the Bastad Open would be a deserving winner but perhaps none more so than 23-year-old Francisco Cerundolo, who stunned the top seed Casper Ruud in three sets on Wednesday. The Argentine will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 33rd no matter the outcome here after another impressive week, with runs to the semi-finals of the Miami Open back in March and a huge four-set performance, albeit in defeat, against Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon last time out displaying his clear top 30 potential.

However, PCB is a hard man to put down at this stage of a tournament. A first meeting between the two should be a thriller and with the Spaniard unafraid to battle it out until the end the shrewd move could be taking Cerundolo to win at least a set here even if he ends up losing.
