THE PREDICTION
This should be a thrilling contest between world number one Daniil Medvedev and number 12 Hubert Hurkacz, with the pair sharing four tight matches over the last 12 months. Hurkacz stunned the Russian in five sets at last season’s Wimbledon in the round of 16 before an assured straight-sets win over Roger Federer took him to the semi-finals but Medvedev returned the favour in matches at the Canadian Open and ATP Finals on his favoured hardcourt. 25-year-old Hurkacz levelled things at 2-2 in their head-to-head record earlier this season with the first straight-sets result between them in the quarter-finals of the Miami Open and the Pole is the more comfortable performer on grass in this final.
26-year-old Medvedev is yet to drop a set this week but Hurkacz has taken out the tougher foes in Felix Auger-Aliassime and a red-hot Nick Kyrgios, suggesting the Pole is the man to back here tentatively at outright or to win at least a set within an accumulator.
