THE PREDICTION

Veteran Richard Gasquet makes his 15th appearance in the main draw at Wimbledon and he will be hoping to roll back the years at SW19. His record at Wimbledon of two semi-finals in 2007 and 2015 represents his best finishes at a Grand Slam and his win ratio of 67% is the highest of all four Slams too. He has however suffered first-round exits in his last three visits which he will be looking to remedy that. He put in some performances in Nottingham in the build up to this event but he did retire against Alex Bolt when the match was finely poised so there may be underlying fitness concerns. That has to be something to consider as he faces 32-year-old Yuichi Sugita in this first round. His Japanese opponent has very little form or track record to overly worry Gasquet having won just one previous game in six at Wimbledon. As long as Gasquet’s body survives, he should comfortably progress.
