World number 46 Alexander Bublik started this season off by reaching the final of an ATP 250 event at the Antalya Open and we will never know how he would have fared against Alex de Minaur after Bublik was forced to retire with an injury. The 23-year-old Kazakh is all talent and, currently, little control as an entertaining player to watch on tour who can be waited-out by many a player in the know. Yoshihito Nishioka is exactly the kind of player that Bublik could dominate for a set and then become frustrated by as the diminutive Japanese lefty is a tireless competitor and if he can stay patient enough to weather Bublik’s storm he could win this in three. This is very much a match up in the air and whomever wins the first set is more likely to lose the match, it seems, especially in Bublik’s case. Nishioka to come through via a deciding set looks a shrewd option here but this one could really go either way.
