THE PREDICTION

World number 105 Yannick Hanfmann beat a wily clay-court competitor in Marco Cecchinato on Thursday to reach the quarter-final of the Sardegna Open. The world number 104 will face the third seed Lorenzo Sonego for a first time here and should struggle throughout to battle the Italian on clay given how well the world number 34 beat a returning Gilles Simon. 25-year-old Sonego’s only ATP title so far came on grass at the Antalya Open in 2019 but he and fellow Italian, and indeed fellow Lorenzo, Lorenzo Musetti look to be the two to beat this week. Hanfmann should be competitive throughout in this match-up but Sonego should be able to comfortably reach the semi-finals in straight sets here.
