THE PREDICTION

Since winning the Qatar Open out of absolutely nowhere last month Nikoloz Basilashvili lost back-to-back matches at the Dubai Open and Miami Open before snapping that run with a three-set comeback in the first round against Jozef Kovalik. There is clearly a confidence crisis still keeping the 29-year-old from playing his best, despite winning a fifth ATP title via defeating Roger Federer in the quarter-finals in Qatar, and that looks likely to see him out here. Jan-Lennard Struff looks to be returning to form after a difficult few months and the world number 41 made short work of qualifier Liam Broady in the round of 16 yesterday to set-up this fourth meeting with the world number 37. Struff holds a 2-1 lead over Basilashvili in their head-to-head record and beat the Georgian fairly recently in the second round of last November’s Paris Masters for his second-successive straight-sets win against him. On recent form, and mentality, it is hard to see Basilashvili coming through this encounter but sets is a difficult one to call as he has been supremely unpredictable this season. Take Struff as the outright winner of this match.
