THE PREDICTION

Liudmila Samsonova blew the Luxembourg Open draw right open by beating top seed Belinda Bencic in straight sets on Friday. The Russian has enjoyed her best year on tour so far with a first title of her career won at the German Open on grass and she is clearly on the way up the rankings. World number 30 Jelena Ostapenko is on her way back to the top after winning her first title for two years at the Eastbourne International in June. She beat Alize Cornet in straight sets to reach the semi-finals. Ostapenko was the winner of their only previous encounter in the first round of the Australian Open last season but Samsonova has come on leaps and bounds since then. This should be a well-balanced battle between the two but Ostapenko won this tournament in 2019 and that experience could help her come through the winner.
