Georgia’s Nikoloz Basilashvili will have been glad of the lack of byes at the Antalya Open to start the new season off with some practice after a torrid run of form from the restart of the tennis season last August. After a predictable hiccup in his first match he fought back to beat Andrea Arnaboldi in three and used that win to much more comprehensively beat Altug Celikbilek in straight-sets on Saturday. Whilst his stats still suggest he has plenty of work to do on his game, a quarter-final in his first tournament of 2021 after a nine-match losing streak is certainly good going. However, Basilashvili now faces the fourth seed and most in-form player at the Antalya Open in 21-year-old Alex de Minaur who has dropped just seven games in two straight-set wins so far. Whilst this will be the Australian’s first test in Turkey, the way De Minaur was playing at the last couple of tournaments in 2020 bodes well for this new season and he still looks the likeliest player to lift this trophy. Basilashvili is something of an enigma as things stand but the most reasonable outcome is a straight-sets victory for De Minaur.
