THE PREDICTION

World number 47 Albert Ramos-Vinolas was pegged back to one set all by Lithuania’s Ricardas Berankis in the round of 16 of the Andalucia Open yesterday but ultimately came through in three. The 33-year-old is a clay expert through and through but had an ultimately disappointing South American swing after losing in the final of the Cordoba Open to teenage wildcard Juan Manual Cerundolo and the semi-finals a week later to Cerundolo’s brother, Francisco, in Buenos Aires. Here, Ramos-Vinolas is a home favourite and fourth seed with plenty of opportunity to make another final on clay this year. First off he must beat a tireless competitor in Norbert Gombos, who has already come through Juan Ignacio Londero and Federico Delbonis via lengthy three-set victories and this looks likely to require a decider too. A robust battle will take place here for a spot in the last four but Ramos-Vinolas should ultimately come through in three here.
