Jannik Sinner cemented himself as the favourite for the tournament when he beat the third seed Alex de Minaur on Thursday and the Italian consolidated that assuredly with a straight-sets victory over Adrian Mannarino in the semi-finals. The 19-year-old looks set to finish off the 2020 season in exactly the right way, by winning his first ATP title to make a bold statement for next season. Such is his momentum in Sofia, that has been building for months now since the re-start of the season, that there are very few players on tour that could be picked over him. 30-year-ol Vasek Pospisil came through a lengthy three-set match with Richard Gasquet to reach the final here and he too has never won an ATP title, in the singles at least. At either ends of their careers, the Canadian now faces the unwelcome prospect of recovering in time to fight this 19-year-old force of nature but it looks set to be heartbreak for the very likeable world number 74. Sinner should be too powerful for Pospisil here and can win this in straight-sets, especially on the imbalanced margin of recovery time the two will have accrued by Sunday afternoon. Watch Jannik Sinner’s space in 2021.
