THE PREDICTION

Alex de Minaur and Ugo Humbert will face each other for the first time in their careers in the final of the European Open after both players came through gruelling three-set semi-finals. De Minaur won just four points more than Grigor Dimitrov on Saturday night in what was a naturally well-contested and tight match and he will have the shorter recovery time ahead of this final. The Australian will be favourite as the eighth seed and world number 29 but Humbert’s fight-back against Dan Evans in the first semi-final on Saturday was very impressive indeed. For much of Humbert’s match, he was behind in the points and the play but he reached his second ATP final of 2020 with some real grit that saw him face down four match points before eventually weathering all Evans could muster. This match should be a fantastic advert for the future of men’s tennis and will be the first of many matches between these two youngsters. De Minaur’s experience should see him take this first meeting and his fourth ATP title but Humbert certainly has it in him to make this another three-set affair.
