Who won the last meeting between Nick Kyrgios vs Tommy Paul? N/A

  • Nick Kyrgios has had two excellent campaigns so far this season at the ATP Cup and Australian Open both ended by Spaniards – Roberto Bautista Agut and Rafael Nadal, respectively.
  • The 24-year-old won the lion’s share of tennis supporters round with his inspiring performances in Australia amongst the tragedy of the bushfires and he should find himself better received everywhere he goes this year.
  • This will be the Aussie’s first tour-level match since a round of 16 exit at the Australian Open to Rafael Nadal where he proved his obvious top 20 ability and a good run here could see him break back in to that hallowed hall.

  • Tommy Paul reached a career-high 70th in the ATP world rankings after a best-ever performance at a Grand Slam where he beat the 18th seed Grigor Dimitrov in five sets.
  • The 22-year-old enters the Delray Beach Open off the back of a disappointing showing in New York, though, where he lost comfortably to sixth seed Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round.
  • Paul reached the semi-finals of the Adelaide International in the week before the Australian Open with some convincing wins over top 50 players but his first meeting with Nick Kyrgios will be a step up.

As ever with Nick Kyrgios, the result of this match will be all of his own making, and it will be interesting to see how the Aussie carries himself away from Australia for the first time this season. He will have endeared himself to the tennis general public over the last month or so but it could feel a little lonely out in Florida in this opening match. However, Kyrgios won both of his ATP titles last year in this part of the world at the Acapulco Open in Mexico and Citi Open in Washington, and he should reflect his place as first seed by winning this. Tommy Paul, however, is a battler and could make this interesting.
