The Lowdown

ST HELENS

  • Saints suffered a miserable loss to Widnes last week as their average and inconsistent season continues, so they will be desperate to bounce back at home to Leigh.
  • The trio of caretaker coaches have called up Jonah Cunningham - son of Saints legend and former Head Coach Kieron - to the squad for the first time while Luke Douglas and Ryan Morgan are also recalled to the 19-man squad.
  • Saints chairman Eamonn McManus has announced that a decision on a new coach will be made within the next fortnight so the likes of Sean Long will be desperate to get a result to have any chance of keeping the job long term.

LEIGH CENTURIONS

  • Leigh's poor form in the Super League rubbed off on to the Challenge Cup as they were beaten by the team they were promoted to replace as Hull KR won 23-10 last weekend.
  • They have now lost their last six matches in a row in all competitions but coach Neil Jukes has refused to make wholesale changes to the squad despite their poor results.
  • Australian full-back Mitch Brown returns to the squad and his inclusion is the only change from last week as they look to halt this winless run against this inconsistent Saints side.

Head Coach: Neil Jukes

Squad: Jamie Acton, Mitch Brown, Lachlan Burr, Ben Crooks, Matty Dawson, Josh Drinkwater, Ryan Hampshire, Harrison Hansen, Adam Higson, Liam Hood, Sam Hopkins, Gregg McNally, Ben Reynolds, Martyn Ridyard, Glenn Stewart, Dave Thompson, Danny Tickle, Atelea Vea, Dayne Weston

Analysis - what to expect
Leigh have lost their last six matches now and with teams around them picking up points, their positive start to the season is beginning to be dampened. Saints were poor against Widnes last week but their home form has improved since Cunningham left, and with the job up for grabs, the coaching team led by Sean Long will be desperate to motivate the players and get them up for this game. With home advantage and against a team low on confidence, the Saints should win this.
