THE TEAM NEWS

SOUTH AFRICA

Captain: Faf du Plessis

  • South Africa edged the third ODI narrowly thanks to the Duckworth/Lewis method as they were ahead of the target when the rain brought an end to that match after the game had been previously disrupted once already, and they take a 2-1 lead now into this fourth ODI in Johannesburg.
  • Batting second definitely gave them an advantage even chasing an impressive total of 317/6 by Pakistan, and the likelihood is that they will want to bat second once again as the rain could well intervene here yet again.
  • The inclusion of Dale Steyn and Quinton de Kock made a notable difference to the team but there may be one or two changes as Tabraiz Shamsi could rotate out for Imran Tahir while Dwaine Pretorius may come into the side for Beuran Hendricks potentially though the batting line-up should go unchanged.

PAKISTAN

Captain: Sarfraz Ahmed

  • Pakistan come into this fourth ODI 2-1 down but despite defeat at Centurion on Friday, there were plenty of positives they can take from that game and had the rain intervened at a different time, they could well have won that match as they were ahead on Duckworth/Lewis at times before South Africa got ahead.
  • The Pakistan selectors will consider the changes they can make and one of those may be to bring another pace bowler in for one of the spinners, and despite his impressive fielding, the expensive Shadab Khan could potentially make way for Usman Shinwari.
  • The main positive from the third ODI was the performance of the batsmen who got to grips nicely with the South African bowling attack despite the early loss of Fakhar Zaman and that will give them confidence that they can level the series here.

THE PREDICTION

South Africa edged the third ODI at Centurion as the rain-affected match was brought to an end when they were ahead on the Duckworth/Lewis method but there was little between the two teams once again. This promises to be another close match with plenty on the line and South Africa will be keen to seal the series here. With Steyn and De Kock in the side, they look even stronger and they should just about edge this one unless the rain affects play once again.
